Under the patronage of Professor Dr. Yasser Rayyan, Dean of the school of Medicine, a new scientific meeting was held at the school of Medicine within the "Meet the Expert" program:
Which periodically hosts a group of experts from prestigious international scientific centers.
The program hosted Dr. Marwa Abu Al-Haija, Associate Professor in the Division of pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition at Stanford University in the United States of America on Tuesday 6-8-2024 in the auditorium of the University of Jordan Hospital.
Dr. Marwa presented a valuable scientific lecture entitled:
Shaping Tomorrow: A Comprehensive
Journey through Pediatric Obesity,
Guidelines and Medication Update,
In which Dr. Marwa addressed the definition of overweight and obesity in children; The reasons for the increase in their global rates; and the treatment methods currently used, including the use of medications and surgical interventions.
The lecture was followed by a rich discussion with the audience , in which Dr. Marwa presented the model of treating obesity in children at Stanford University Hospital, and the medical team that supervises the evaluation and follow-up of cases, which includes pediatric gastroenterologists, nutritionists, behavioral therapists, social workers, pediatric nurses, in addition to the pediatric surgeons who work in harmony with the team.
This meeting was prepared by the organizing scientific committee under the supervision of Dr. Feda Thekrallah, Assistant Dean for Student Affairs in the Clinical and Graduate Stage, and Dr. Qais Al-Balbisi and Dr. Laila Al-Tutunji, and the meeting was moderated by Dr. Fareed Khdair, chief of pediatric Gastroenterology, hepatology and Nutrition at the school of medicine.
The event was distinguished by the generous presence of an elite group of faculty members in the Department of Pediatrics and the school of Medicine, pediatric residents, and medical students.
