​A workshop held at the School of Medicine for Faculty members and graduate students entitled Workshop on Advanced Medical Research - Part 2​

A workshop was held at the School of Medicine for Faculty members and graduate students on Tuesday, 16-4-2024 entitled Workshop on Advanced Medical Research - Part 2

The Office of Quality and Communication Affairs held this course in cooperation with the Accreditation and Quality Assurance Center and the Institute of Public Health at the university within the Schools' track of Development Need Analysis courses for Faculty members.

The workshop was presented by Dr. Mounir Abu Hlala, Director of the Institute of Public Health, Associate Professor in the Department of Family Medicine and Medicine and  Dr. Diana Arabiyat, Professor of Medical Statistics and Head of the Department of Mother and Child Health at the School of Nursing at the University of Jordan.

The workshop included a presentation of the methods of medical scientific research and discussion of the different types of medical studies presented by Dr. Abu Hlala, within the  following learning objectives  :

·         To understand principles and use of different research methods

·         To enable participants to select the right study design for research ideas

·         To assess strengths and limitations of different types of study designs

·         To provide practical examples of different study designs

Dr. Diana Arabiyat also gave a presentation on the methods of biostatistics and the mechanisms of conducting data analysis in multiple medical studies based on the type of study with practical examples. Her presentation included: the foundations of descriptive statistics and inferential statistics, methods of determining sample size in the study, and organizing data using central tendency scales, dispersion scales and position scales ,probability and its rules and applications in the various medical and biological fields , probability distributions, especially the normal distribution, confidence intervals and tests of various hypotheses that form the basis in the process of scientific research in general and medical and biological research in particular.

The workshop included an interactive discussion with the attendees, and the workshop received accreditation for continuous professional development hours from the Jordanian Medical Council.

The workshop was organized and supervised by Dr. Enas Al-Zayadneh, Mrs. Maha Al-Lami, Mrs. Nancy Bani Ahmed from the Office of Quality Affairs and Communication and students from the Quality Assurance Committee (Ahmed Al-Haj and Ayham Al-Kurdi).
