Program Specifications

Higher Specialization in Emergency Medicine / Program Intended Learning Outcomes

1- Apply and integrate knowledge of the clinical, socio-behavioral, and fundamental biomedical sciences, detective reasoning and evidence based practice relevant to Emergency Medicine in rapid assessment and management of patients with acute and/or undifferentiated illness or injury, ranging from life-threatening events to common minor presentations

2- Interpret accurately finding from focused history and physical examination to recognize the presentation and generate well organized differential diagnosis for each problem encountered in the practice of emergency medicine.

3- Select appropriate investigations and interpret accurately the results of the most appropriate laboratory and imaging procedures and perform different simple and bedside medical and surgical procedures relevant to emergency medicine to diagnose different clinical disorders.

4- Develop and carryout appropriate management plan and therapeutic intervention demonstrating awareness of risks, benefits, costs, patient preferences, up to date scientific evidence as well as ethical and psychosocial dimensions.

​5- Recognize, triage and manage emergency situation including medical and surgical emergencies, trauma and dying patients and deal with dying patients and their relatives in a professional dignified way.

6- Demonstrate proficient and appropriate use of procedural skills, in the clinical setting or through simulation. Select and perform these procedures in an appropriate, safe, and skillful manner, with appropriate attention to minimizing patient risk and discomfort.

7- Define patient safety and quality improvement, identify life threatening conditions and establish prompt therapy, referral or consultation to other health professional recognizing the limits of their own expertise.

8- Recognize ethical principles and implement the professional ethical attitude with patients and their relatives including respect of patient confidentiality and consent and delivery of care in an honest, considerate and compassionate manner.

9- Demonstrate effective communication with patient, families and other members of health care team showing respect, compassion and integrity.

10- Convey oral and written information effectively and maintain complete and accurate medical reports and utilize information technology to manage information, access online medical information and lifelong learning.

11- Develop team working and leadership skills necessary to organize work and supervise, educate junior and paramedical staff.

​12- Utilize different scientific methodology to conduct and publish scientific research studies and present the results professionally and applying quality control based practice.
