At the successful completion of the Higher
Specialization Program in Anesthesia and Critical Care, the graduate should be
able to:
1. Apply and integrate knowledge of clinical and
fundamental biomedical sciences especially anatomy, physiology and pharmacology,
relevant to anesthesiology.
2. Perform a complete and appropriate assessment
of a patient including relevant history taking, focused physical examination,
and effective and appropriate investigations relevant to anesthesiology.
3. Demonstrate effective clinical problem solving
and judgment to address patient problems, including interpreting available
clinical and monitoring devices data and integrating information to generate
differential diagnoses and formulate management plans.
4. Implement a management plan in collaboration
with a patient and the patient’s family and demonstrate appropriate and timely
application of preventive and therapeutic interventions relevant to
Anesthesiology.
5. Demonstrate effective, appropriate, and timely
performance of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures relevant to Anesthesiology
and utilize effectively various equipment’s relevant to Anesthesiology.
6. Assess and manage acute and chronic pain either
surgically or non-surgically utilizing proper up-to-date treatments and
techniques.
7. Recognize and manage effectively medical
emergency situations that anesthetist commonly encounter and carry out the role
of an intensivist in the Intensive Care Unit.
8. Seek effective, appropriate, and timely
consultation of another health professional as needed for optimal patient care,
recognizing the limits of their expertise.
9. Develop rapport and ethical therapeutic
relationships with patients and families, convey relevant and accurate
information to patients, families, colleagues and other professionals, and
communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
10. Participate effectively and appropriately in
an interprofessional health care team to assess, plan, provide and integrate
care for patients.
11. Develop leadership skills necessary to
organize work and supervise and educate junior and paramedical staff and show a
commitment to continuous professional development.
12. Evaluate medical information and its sources
critically, and apply this appropriately to practice decisions, and utilize
different scientific methodologies to conduct and publish scientific research
studies in peer reviewed journals or conferences and present the results
professionally.
