It is expected that the
program will provide opportunities for students to develop and demonstrate
knowledge and understanding, skills and other properties in the following
fields:
By the end of training, a
resident should be able to do the following:
1.
Apply and integrate the basic scientific knowledge,
detective reasoning and evidence-based practice in clinical problems related to
Urology including the male and female urinary tract and the male genital
system.
2.
Identify and discuss common surgical urological
problems and distinguish their underlying pathologic processes.
3.
Integrate finding from medical history and physical
examination to recognize the presentation and construct differential diagnosis
for common urological problems and design an appropriate diagnostic plan in
inpatient and outpatient facilities.
4.
Select and interpret accurately the results of the
most appropriate and cost effective diagnostic procedures for each urological
problems and correlate the results together to reach a probable diagnosis.
5.
Set a treatment plan to the diagnosed urological
problem taking into consideration the risks and benefits as well as cultural
and individual needs of the patients.
6.
Demonstrate professional skills in basic urological
procedures including endoscopic surgeries and minimally invasive laparoscopic procedures,
preoperative, operative and post-operative management of Urological problems
for adult and children, and master essential surgical techniques for adults and
children and recognize, categorize, and manage effectively all urologic
emergencies.
7.
Analyze and discuss the methods of screening and
early detection of urological malignancy and monitor the effectiveness of
therapy and reevaluate the management plan.
8.
Handle tissues and use surgical instruments
professionally and apply guidelines of infection control while performing
routine diagnostic and surgical procedures and operation.
9.
Recognize ethical principles that govern
decision-making in surgical practice and implement the professional ethical
attitude with patients and their relatives including respect of patient's
confidentiality and consent and delivery of care in an honest, considerate and
compassionate manner.
10.
Maintain complete and accurate medical records and
utilize information technology to manage information, access on-line medical
information, and support own education and proper patient care.
11.
Utilize different scientific methodologies to conduct
and publish scientific research studies and present the results professionally.
12.
Demonstrate effective communication with the
health-care team and develop team-working and leadership skills necessary to
organize work and supervise and educate junior and paramedical staff and show a
commitment to continuous professional development.
