Program Specifications

High Specialization in General Surgery / Program Intended Learning Outcomes

It is expected that the program will provide opportunities for students to develop and demonstrate knowledge and understanding, skills and other properties in the following fields:

1. Apply and integrate knowledge of basic biomedical and socio-behavioral sciences, detective reasoning, and evidence based practice in clinical problem solving in different fields ofGeneral Surgery

2. Interpret accurately the findings from history and physical examination to recognize the presentation/s and construct a differential diagnosis for common General Surgery complaints

3. Select and interpret the results of the most appropriate diagnostic plan for evaluation of common General Surgery complaints taking into consideration the nature of the clinical situation and the risks, benefits and costs to the patient.

4. Formulate management plans for common and rare General Surgery problems taking into account the cultural and individual needs.

5. Demonstrate professional skills in outpatient General Surgical procedures, basic general surgical skills, preoperative, operative, and postoperative management of  problems and complications.

6. Recognize and manage effectively all General Surgical emergencies.

7. Recognize ethical principles that govern decision-making in General Surgery practice and implement the professional ethical attitude with patients and their relatives including respect of patient's confidentiality and consent and delivery of care in an honest, considerate and compassionate manner.

8. Maintain complete, detailed and accurate medical records and utilize information technology to manage information, access on-line medical information, and support own education and proper patient care.

9. Utilize different scientific methodologies to conduct and publish scientific research studies and present the results professionally.

​10. Demonstrate effective communication with the health-care team and develop team-working and leadership skills necessary to organize work and supervise and educate junior and paramedical staff and show a commitment to continuous professional development.
