Program Specifications

Higher Specialization in Otolaryngology / Program Intended Learning Outcomes

It is expected that the program will provide opportunities for students to develop and demonstrate knowledge and understanding, skills and other properties in the following fields:

By the end of training, a resident should be able to do the following:

1. Apply and integrate knowledge of clinical and fundamental biomedical sciences relevant to ENT.

2. Utilize proper history, conduct physical examination, elicit physical signs, conduct and interrupt investigations accurately, to differentiate different ENT presenting problems and to reach proper and accurate diagnosis.

3. Formulate proper management plan of the patient, including both medical and surgical approaches as needed, demonstrating good understanding of patient’s condition and available medical care options.

4. Conduct competently common ENT procedures at the clinic or Emergency sitting, and combining it with proper medical and preventive care.

5. Utilize information technology to manage information, appraise and apply new evidence in ENT care, and generate best management plan for the patients in the context of available setting, best practices and patients’ preferences.

6. Apply proper doctor-patient relationship principles, establish good rapport and adhere with the professional and ethical standards.

7. Evaluate and manage emergency cases promptly and safely.

8. Verify cases that needs referral for more specialized slandered of care

9. Develop team-working and leadership skills necessary to organize work and supervise and educate junior residents and paramedical staff and show a commitment to continuous professional development and medical education.

10. Critique scientific literature and utilize different scientific methodologies to conduct and publish scientific research studies and present the results professionally.

11. Demonstrate effective communication with patients, families and other members of the health care team showing respect, compassion and integrity.

  4. Utilize proper history and physical examination, elicit physical signs, request and interrupt investigations accurately, and conduct diagnostic procedures, to differentiate different ophthalmological presenting problems and to reach proper and accurate diagnosis.
  5. Formulate proper management plan of the patient, including both medical and surgical approaches as needed, demonstrating good understanding of patient’s condition and available medical care options.
  6. Conduct skillful ophthalmological surgical procedures and operations, in clinic, emergency and operation room settings.
  7. Utilize information technology to manage information, appraise and apply new evidence in ophthalmological care, and generate best management plan for the patients in the context of available setting, best practices and patients’ preferences.
  8. Curry out comprehensive consultation including proper doctor-patient relationship principles, establish good rapport and adhere with the professional and ethical standards.
  9. Evaluate and manage emergency cases promptly and safely.
