It is expected that the program will provide opportunities for
students to develop and demonstrate knowledge and understanding, skills and
other properties in the following fields:
1. Evaluate and dissect gross specimens with varying degree of
complexity and the ability to choose suitable representative blocks.
2. Competent and confident in performing microscopic examination of
broad range of specimens (small biopsies and large specimens).
3. The ability to choose the appropriate immunohistochemical stains
that can help to reach an accurate diagnosis.
4. Provide the residents with appropriate skills to evaluate
different types of cytopathology specimens.
5. Enrich the trainee in his/her role as a diagnostic clinician for
the management of patients with enhancement of collaboration with clinical
colleagues.
6. Encourage the trainees to participate in different types of
research projects, keeping in mind the appropriate ethical aspects in our
institution.
7. Educate and train the resident to utilize and improve
communication skills with our clinical colleagues and emphasize the proper
documentation of such communication.
8. The residents should be familiar with forensic autopsies
performed in our hospital. Attending and observing 5 postmortem examinations
per year is required in addition to discussing histopathological examination
when performed on these cases. This issue will be arranged with the forensic
pathology department.
