Cardiovascular Sciences Open Day Engages Third-Year Medical Students in Hands-On Clinical Training

The School of Medicine at the University of Jordan successfully hosted the Cardiovascular Sciences (CVS) Open Day on Thursday, 4 December 2025, at the Clinical Skills Laboratory. Organized and coordinated by Dr. Fatima Ryalat, MD, PhD, Assistant Professor of Physiology and CVS Course Coordinator, the event aimed to strengthen the integration of clinical competencies within the CVS curriculum by providing third-year medical students with interactive, practice-based learning experiences.

Throughout the event, students participated in hands-on training sessions covering essential cardiovascular skills, including:

• Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)

• Cardiac auscultation using advanced simulation models

• Electrocardiogram (ECG) performance and interpretation

These sessions were led by distinguished faculty members and clinical trainers who guided students through practical scenarios using high-fidelity clinical skill models. This approach enriched students' understanding of cardiovascular physiology and enhanced their preparedness for future clinical rotations.

In addition to the educational activities, the event included a community service initiative in which students measured blood pressure for University of Jordan employees. Participants received personalized advice on lifestyle modification and recommendations for medical follow-up when needed. This outreach component reinforced the importance of preventive cardiovascular health and community engagement.

The CVS Open Day reflects the School of Medicine's commitment to innovative teaching, skills-based training, and early clinical exposure within foundational medical courses. The event received excellent feedback from students and faculty, emphasizing the value of experiential learning in strengthening clinical confidence and competence.

The School of Medicine extends its sincere appreciation to all faculty, clinical instructors, and administrative staff whose dedication contributed to the success of this educational activity, with special acknowledgment to Dr. Fatima Ryalat for her leadership and coordination.
