Placement of a feeding tube on the surface of the skin using endoscopy in one step and without surgical intervention for a girl at the University of Jordan Hospital
A specific operation, the first of its kind in the Kingdom, was performed in the Pediatric Gastroenterology Unit at the University of Jordan Hospital for a two-year-old girl, during which a feeding tube was placed on the surface of the skin by endoscopy in one step, without surgical intervention, using the latest equipment and devices.
The pediatric gastrointe , liver, and nutrition consultant at the hospital, Dr. Farid Khudair, who performed the operation with the participation of the anesthesia and intensive care consultant, Professor Khaled Al-Zaben, and with the support of a medical and nursing team, stated that the patient was suffering from recurrent neurological spasms, delayed growth, and difficulty swallowing liquids. This required the placement of a permanent feeding tube to enable her to eat lunch easily.
Dr. Khudair pointed out that this process is usually performed in two stages: The first is through endoscopy, during which a feeding tube is placed that extends outside the body on the surface of the skin and towards the stomach, and the second stage, which takes place (3) months after the first, during which the first tube is replaced through endoscopy with another directly on the surface of the skin, explaining that what distinguishes this specific operation is Dispensing with both previous stages with one operation, noting that this (one-step) operation is usually performed in developed countries using a surgical laparoscope and a traditional laparoscope.
It is note worthy that the child was discharged from the hospital after recovering and improving her health.
