There mission of the Radiology and Nuclear medicine department includes three major duties that can be summarized as follows:
1. Research duty: Scientific research has been always a priority of the academic staff. The Department has published dozens of scientific research in internationally refereed journals. Research in Department Radiology is an ongoing process that involves undergraduate and postgraduate students who receive training in research methods and participate actively in paper writing under direct supervision. 2. Teaching duty: the 4 year residency program in Radiology and Nuclear Medicine aims to qualify medical residents to obtain the high education degree in Radiology and Nuclear medicine. Residents are trained on all diagnostic equipment during the 4 year training program, by the end of training they are expected to acquire scientific knowledge to write a methodologically and scientifically structured radiology report. Besides to practical teaching sessions there are daily theoretical activities where the teaching staff and radiology residents meet daily to discuss recent relative issues in radiology. In addition to the resident teaching program, the department staff delivers lectures and practical teaching sessions for fifth year medical students and provides elective training opportunities for physicians and residents in other specialties.
3. Service duty: The Department of Radiology and Nuclear Medicine provides all diagnostic imaging services adhering to excellent scientific and professional standards and under direct supervision of academic staff. The department offers the following diagnostic services:
A. Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI): two MRI machines are available in the department, one of them a state of art 3 Tesla MRI machine and is the most sophisticated equipment in national and international basis, it is operated with precision, efficiency and professionalism.
B. Computed tomography (CT imaging): the service is provided by three machines, one of them is 128 Dual Source Multislice slice CT (MDCT) and is therefore fully equipped to perform dedicated non-invasive coronary imaging. A spiral CT is located in the emergency departments and helps in providing provide prompt and ideal service.
